Complementing the series of activities and the fruitful events that the Heya program is carrying out in order to increase women participation in public work create equal opportunities amongst females, and help local organizations achieve sustainable development, the program organized a successful meeting with Qena Governor, Major General Abdul Hamid Haggan. The meeting is considered a successful step towards developing relations and building bridges between women and decision makers. Program outline and objectives were presented at the meeting.
The meeting was held at the Governor office on 7th September, 2015 with the participation of his Excellency Qena Governor, Heya program representatives, Mr. Abdel El-Gawaad Al-Naggar Qena General Secretary, and Mr. Hussien El-Sayed Ahmed the undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Solidarity. I addition to Mr. Ahmed Hegaza, head of Horas for Development Association and eight women leaders affiliated to Heya program who were supported and qualified to take an effective role in formulating public policies relevant to their community; and to overcome obstacles that may hinder gender equality.
Discussions addressed Heya program objectives and various activities aiming at enabling women, enhancing women interaction and encouraging women cadres to carry out active roles in Qena.
Finally, it was agreed to draft a concept paper with suggested public policies drafted by women to be presented to Qena Governor and executives later this year. General Hagaan emphasized the importance of developing an appropriate mechanism to expand the program to all Qena cities and villages. Furthermore, General Hagaan promised to provide all needed support to Heya program through Horas for Development Association, Heya program local partner.
